As all of you know, the buzz around town--in every town in America--
is gas prices. Everybody is trying to think up ways to "get back
at the gas companies" and save a few dollars at the pump.
There are really only 4 things you can EASILY do to improve your fuel mileage:
1. Drive the speed limit - try it, I promise you will see an increase in fuel mileage.
2. Use the proper weight engine oil - thinner oils are more fuel efficient.
3. Drive a more fuel efficient vehicle. Let's be honest...did you buy your vehicle
because of its fuel efficiency?? Maybe you can trade it in on a more efficient model?
4. Check your tire pressure - under inflated tires drastically decrease fuel economy.
The link to this issue's article is below, but before you click
over, I'm going to give you an important homework assignment:
Some time in the next three days, check the tire pressure for
every tire on every car in your family. Yes, under inflated
tires can really affect your gas mileage, but more importantly,
over or under inflated tires can be a serious safety risk.
I checked the tires on my car yesterday before my wife took off
in it--just because one looked a little low. I couldn't believe
it when I found out that the other three were WAY over inflated.
I'm a real stickler about car maintenance, and I really don't
know how it happened. I don't know if someone put too much air
in during a maintenance check, or if I just "eyeballed" them at
the air pump, but it happened. And if it happened to me, it can
certainly happen to you.
