"It's So Unprofessional! I Would Never Use That In My Marketing!"
Several years ago I wrote about a customer of mine, Tom Roberson.
He used some of my marketing techniques to get quality
appointments and generate leads for his business. In
amazingprospectingletters.com I reveal a letter sequence that was
getting him a 20% appointment ratio with business owners. Some of
them even called him first! Keep reading. You're going to enjoy
this...
Another technique that I had him test for tradeshow marketing, as
described in my 29 Ways Report, is displaying a briefcase
filled with my million-dollar bills in front of his booth. The idea
was to create curiosity. Combined with simple yet effective
pre-marketing, his booth was the hit of the trade show. And he
generated tons of leads.
Up until a couple of years ago, I knew of nobody else attempting
this technique, even though I've written about it and suggested it a
number of times to clients.
A high-tech company, contacted me after reading my report on how to
use my million dollar bills in their marketing. They decided upon
using the briefcase technique. they didn't do any pre-marketing at
their trade shows, and yet they too were the hit of their trade
show! Here's what they did: They displayed the briefcase so that
everyone nearby could see it at the tradeshow. They also crumpled
up million-dollar bills throughout the tradehow and dropped them
around their booth. They enjoyed watching people scramble to pick
them up.
The million-dollar bills and the briefcase, combined with throwing
the million-dollar bills around, causes quite a buzz at all of
their trade shows. They get people coming to their booth,
requesting a million-dollar bill because they think they are so
wonderful. As a result, the conversation leads into what they are
selling. Almost all of the prospects who ask for a million-dollar
bill gratefully give up their contact information (and there's lots
people asking for them). As a result they get a lead. This simple
technique has helped generate additional sales for their company.
Keep in mind, this is a high-tech company selling a very expensive
service that saves large companies millions of dollars! Their
clients are as sophisticated as they get...
I just love hearing about the success stories, because sometimes I
get e-mails from customers who have purchased some of my marketing
products or read my million-dollar bill techniques and say, "I
would never try it because it's so unprofessional! My clients are
different...they are very sophisticated individuals (or business
owners)!"
This used to get under my skin...the ignorance! But I realized that
these people will continue doing what they perceive as 'professional
marketing' and throw tens of thousands of dollars in marketing
revenue and wasted time in the trash can. While companies
like the one I just described have the balls to actually try
something different, and the results speak for themselves.
So if you are not generating the sales leads that you want, and
you are not getting the clients that you want, and you're working
really hard just to get a couple of appointments every day, don't
you I think it's time to try something different? What do you have
to lose?
